About the AUSTRALIAN WILDLIFE SOUND RECORDING GROUP
AWSRG Inc.
was formed officially in October 1997. We have a current membership
of 70 or so individuals spread over all states in Australia, and some in other
countries with members specialising in birds, frogs, insects and mammals.
As the name suggests we are dedicated to the sound recording and study of Australian wildlife. We produce a journal called “Audiowings” and a CD twice a year.

The
CD contains examples of members
recordings that illustrate a particular subject. For example, the first CD dealt
with the pre-dawn calls of honeyeaters, the variation of the calls of the
Striated Pardalote from different areas of Australia, and various bird calls
recorded from Little Desert in Victoria. The Journal articles link to the sound
on the CD as well as additional reviews on equipment and other aspects of
recording wildlife sound.
Our members
both amateur and professional strive to obtain "quality" recordings
and most have acquired good quality recording equipment to try to get the best
possible sound quality that they can. However, the subject matter of the
recording is held to be equally as important, and many of our members
study the behavioural and geographical aspects of bird, and animal,
vocalisations.
As wildlife
sound recording is by nature a mostly solitary pursuit. A 5 day
conference\workshop is held every two years (at different locations around
Australia) to discuss various aspects of wildlife sound recording, to
demonstrate equipment and technique, discuss editing software and also to offer
members the opportunity to meet and socialise with fellow recordists in person.
If you would like more
information on the group please email us via the link below or write to the us
at the postal address. If you would
like to join the group you can print a subscription form from the link below. We would welcome
your membership to the group and all new members are most welcome to ask for
advice (if needed) on acquiring recording equipment or any other aspect of this
fascinating pursuit.
